Undergraduate research opportunities program (UROP)

UROP provides undergraduate students the opportunity to work together on research in foreign universities. To encourage UNIST undergraduates to explore and conduct in-depth scientific projects at facilities overseas, the program lasts anywhere between 4 to 10 weeks of the summer and winter break.

  • - Awareness of expertized research career
  • - Further understanding of the participants’ field of research
  • - Getting connected with faculties, researchers, students and scientists who share the similar interests (Getting involved with groups who share similar research interest)
  • - explore research facilities overseas and improve English language skills
  • - Receive up to 3 research internship credits


▶Eligibility

  • - All applicants must enrolled as at least sophomore students
  • - Documents required are vary from the type of visa that each institution requires.
  • - SKYPE or face to face interview can be take place during selection process

Application Process

  • - There are two ways to participate in the program:
    1. Contact a UNIST faculty directly
      If you already have a research field in mind, contact to UNIST professor (including your advisor) who can connect you to a foreign laboratory overseas. After being accepted to a foreign laboratory, submit UROP application to International Relations Team at least 2~3 months prior to the program starting date. If you have specific institution in your mind, it is best to directly contact to the faculty or related staff at the foreign institution you wish to be involved. After you hear the result of being accepted from the foreign institution, contact to International Relations Team (Jungah Flora Chai: 4132, jungahchai@unist.ac.kr) for further assistance.
    2. Apply to UROP placements through
      UROP placements will be announced around March through academic bulletin board in UNIST portal. If the placements fits to your field of interest, submit UROP application through an email (Jungah Flora Chai: 4132, jungahchai@unist.ac.kr). Interview can be take place by UNIST faculty and faculty at foreign institution based on your application.
